Ok, so Beyoncé's camp is promoting really hard for her upcoming project entitled
I Am...Sasha Fierce . It's a double album, and the first two singles "If I Were a Boy" and "Single Ladies [Put a Ring on It]" have been released already. On Youtube, I ran across this cute little promo video of Ms. Knowles (Mrs. Carter) in the studio, recording tracks for the album, and it seems as though she is up to her old tricks again. There she is, in the studio with a pen and pad, "writing" If I Were a Boy. For those of you who don't know, "If I Were a Boy" is a track written by a little-known singer/songwriter named BC Jean. She sold the rights to the song to Sony and Beyonce's camp gave Beyonce writer's acknowledgments in the credits even though she did not write the track! This isn't the first time B has committed copyright infringement. She takes songs that already exist, adds a couple "it's" and "the's"...changes a couple "she's" to "he's" and BAM...her name goes in the writer's credits. She claimed that she wrote "Irreplaceable" when CLEARLY, it was written by Ne-Yo (his sound is very distinct. You can tell when he's behind a track within the first bar!). She also took writer's credit for songs she did not write on The Writing's On the Wall, Survivor and Destiny Fulfilled. What's funny is, a lot of people don't know this stuff because well, she's
Beyoncé. In a court battle between this superstar and a small-time unknown songwriter, guess who's more likely to come out on top? As a songwriter myself, the whole situation gets me a little heated.
